11 Green Summer Universities Throughout Europe

Summer is upon us and as well as being the time when we all like to relax with friends and family, it is also the time of year when many Greens look forward to meeting up with old and new friends at Green summer universities held throughout Europe. This year is no exception and there is a wide range of events to choose from.

Euromediterranea, Italy

This year's edition of Euromediterranea will focus on the responsible and sustainable use of the land and its resources. The opening will be held on July 1st, 2010 in Bolzano/Bozen when the International Alexander Langer award will be presented to the Stava 1985 foundation. The following two days will be dedicated to environmental issues and to the ethical topics in environmental matters that Langer had dealt with. The festival will end on July 4th with an excursion to Stava.

Ecopolitics Summer Academy, Hungary

The Summer Academy is aimed at training activists interested in ecopolitics, developing relationships among them and, of course, spending some fun days together. Nearly 200 activists, 40 Hungarian and 20 foreign speakers, four lectures, thirty seminars, local organic food, folk dance workshops, campfires, guitars and drums, participative theatre, films, yoga, old and new friends: a collective experience.

NAVARRA, SPAIN : July 29th to 1st August :The second Summer University of the Spanish Greens, dedicated to Green local politics, will take place in Beire (Navarre) from 29th July to 1st August.

Following last year good experiences in Huesca, the II Summer University of the Spanish Greens is moving. This year it will take place at a hostel from the Solidaire and Alternative Economy Network (www.bei-tu.com) in Beire (Navarre), from Thursday 29th July to Sunday 1st August.

The Summer Green University is a grassroots meeting, bringing together activists, supporters, experts and members of environmental groups, social movements, NGO and civil society organizations. Its main purpose is building up green networks in Spain and with our European friends.

Seminars, workshops and open sessions will encourage debates, information sharing and training on issues of interest to all people close to green movements: Economy, de-growth and the New Green Deal; health; North-South relationships; energy policies; ecologic agriculture; eco-feminism; free software, etc.

The core theme this year is “local green politics” and, thanks to the support of the Green European Foundation (GEF), we will welcome participants and guest from all Europe.
